What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It helps to control blood sugar levels and may reduce the risk of serious complications associated with diabetes, such as heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
Semaglutide injections can:
- Reduce appetite
- Slow gastric emptying, leaving you feeling fuller longer
- Regulate blood sugar
- Fight insulin resistance by stimulating insulin production
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, also known as an incretin mimetic. A clinical study from Yale Medicine has demonstrated that when combined with diet and exercise, Semaglutide can contribute to weight loss of up to 15%.
How Does Semaglutide Work?
Semaglutide is a medication that helps regulate food intake by reducing feelings of hunger. It does this by mimicking the hormone GLP-1, which works to control appetite. Semaglutide also contributes to a feeling of fullness and satisfaction after eating meals, as it delays gastric emptying.
It is important to note that weight loss cannot be achieved solely through the use of this tactic. To support metabolic health and avoid weight regain, other changes must also be made. These changes could include modifications to diet, exercise routine, and other lifestyle habits.
Semaglutide has been shown to help people lose up to 10% of their body weight. It suppresses appetite, resulting in less food consumed and thus, weight loss. The effects are long-lasting as it reduces the likelihood of regaining lost weight.
Semaglutide users may see results within a few weeks of beginning the medication. It can take up to 12 weeks for full effects to be experienced.

How To Use Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is administered through a prefilled syringe subcutaneously in the abdomen, upper arm, or thigh. Injections should be taken once a week without regard to meals and any time of day. It is okay to change the day of injection as long as it has been at least 48 hours since the last dose.
Patients should take semaglutide injections as directed and contact the office if they do not understand any part of the instructions prior to administration. Patients should not increase the amount or take more than prescribed. After four weeks, patients’ providers may increase their semaglutide injection dose, starting on a relatively low dose. After another four weeks, doctors might further adjust dosage based on the patient’s body response to medicine.
It is important to not reuse needles and never share them. After injecting the dose, remove the needle immediately. Semaglutide can be injected into the upper arm, thigh or stomach area and injection sites should be rotated regularly. If taking insulin as well, semaglutide and insulin injections may occur in the same region but avoid directly next to each other.
